In this curator-guided tour of Art of Noise, visitors will explore one hundred years of design for sound. From concert posters to record albums, phonographs to digital music players, handheld radios to sound systems, Art of Noise takes visitors on an exploration of how design has transformed people’s relationship to music over the past century. This tour will be led by Cindy Trope, Associate Curator of Product Design and Decorative Arts.
Tour Cooper Hewitt’s home, the historic Carnegie Mansion, built for industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie and his family from 1899 to 1902.
In this guided tour of Made in America: The Industrial Photography of Christopher Payne, photographer Christopher Payne will guide visitors through the exhibition, highlighting some of his original photographs of industrial manufacturing across the United States. From candy to pianos to humanoid robots, Payne’s photographs capture the ingenuity and diversity of products made in America, and the skilled workers who make them.
Join us for a sensory-friendly evening of structured fun at Cooper Hewitt. Explore how music and design come together in the Made in America exhibition with interactive experiences, conversation, and creativity.
Join us for a lively story time and design activity to explore how things are made in Made in America: The Industrial Photography of Christopher Payne. Children and their caretakers will look closely at photographs and touch objects from inside factories to see the transformation of raw materials into everyday objects like pencils, hats, cars, and airplanes. Then they will design their own transportation vehicle!
Join Cooper Hewitt for a talk with Fashion Design winner Josh Tafoya—the third program in a new series spotlighting the 2026 National Design Award winners in conversation with Director Maria Nicanor.
Josh Tafoya is a textile artist redefining the "Southwestern" aesthetic and American fashion from an Indigenous perspective. Drawing on his Genízaro, Spanish, and Chicano heritage, Tafoya blends ancestral knowledge of Rio Grande Valley weaving with contemporary fashion innovation to ensure the traditional cultural crafts of New Mexico live on in a contemporary world.
Join Cooper Hewitt for a talk with Design Visionary Award winner Robert Earl Paige—the first program in a new series spotlighting the 2026 National Design Award winners in conversation with Director Maria Nicanor.
Paige is an artist, designer, and educator whose work disregards boundaries between fine art, craft, and design. A participant in the Black Arts Movement, Paige champions community engagement in art and culture, and his practice reflects a love of color, a commitment to design principles, and a belief in making art accessible for everyday people. Repurposing is central to his work, transforming found fibers, cardboard, and paper into new creations that invite others to embrace curiosity and making.
Join fragrance historian and educator Jessica Murphy for an illustrated lecture highlighting the stories behind a selection of perfumes released from the 1890s through the 1910s. Just like a work of visual art, fashion, or architecture, a fragrance can capture a specific time and place and may reflect technical innovations and new materials.
Join us for a two-part afternoon program exploring how Deaf creatives use American Sign Language (ASL) to design musical and cultural experiences—reframing music as visual, spatial, and embodied. Presented in conjunction with the Art of Noise exhibition, this program features a moderated conversation and a live performance that highlights Deaf perspectives.
Explore this month’s featured exhibition at your own pace, with opportunities to discover, connect, and engage with the objects and ideas on display.
