In celebration of the Art of Noise  exhibition, join Cooper Hewitt for an exclusive HiFi walking tour of three New York City audio destinations in downtown Manhattan. We’ll start at Arup, a global leader in built environment design. Raj Patel, Arup Fellow for Acoustics and Audiovisual Design, and his colleagues Joseph Digerness and Ryan Cox, will share insights from decades of acoustics, audio, and architectural research and tell us more about the Arup SoundLab®—a space designed to explore, understand, and perfect the science of sound to shape desired outcomes—and the next generation of the facility opening later in 2026. Next, we’ll walk to All Blues Musiquarium, a Japanese-inspired listening lounge which sits just above the legendary record store Mixtape Club. We’ll enjoy a guided tour of their two distinct sonic spaces, browse rare vinyl, and unwind with drinks and snacks in an atmosphere where music does the talking.  View full event details here.

Join cinematographer, director, and executive producer Russell Lee Fine as he activates Devon Turnbull’s immersive sound installation HiFi Pursuit Listening Room Dream No. 3. Fine’s appreciation for vinyl and jazz will inform his selection for Turnbull’s large-scale, handmade audio system located in the historic Carnegie Library at Cooper Hewitt.  Designed to envelop the listener in sound that is as rich in texture as it is in emotion, visitors will experience realistic, natural sound from Turnbull’s sculptures and a chance to slow down and engage deeply in listening. Join Devon Turnbull and composer Michael A. Muller as they present selections from Unna, the first release from the Ojas Music record label. A collaborative project between Muller and Otto A. What do you mean by design? Opening up the question at the heart of his practice and business, Room for Magic and Deem Journal, Nu Goteh—winner of the 2025 National Design Award for Emerging Designer— will present his renowned work that spans his community-centered research, branding, publishing, and social practice. He will explore the ways he and others have used design as cultural authorship, meaning-making, and a tool for intervening in the systems that organize our lives. After his presentation, Goteh will have an intimate conversation with Salome Asega, Director of NEW INC, a museum-led incubator for art, design, and technology.
