Known under his creative pseudonym OJAS, Devon Turnbull handcrafts high-fidelity audio systems designed to envelop the listener in sound that is as rich in texture as it is in emotion. Join members of the OJAS team as they activate the immersive sound installation with Miles Davis at Fillmore West, a historic recording from April 12, 1970. Miles Davis at Fillmore West features the final night of the four-night run where the Miles Davis quintet (Davis, Chick Corea, Dave Holland, Jack DeJohnette and Steve Grossman) opened for the Grateful Dead at the Fillmore West in San Francisco. Visitors will experience realistic, natural sound from Turnbull’s sculptures and a chance to slow down and engage deeply in listening.  .

Join record producer Yale Evelev as he activates Devon Turnbull’s immersive sound installation HiFi Pursuit Listening Room Dream No. 3. Evelev will use his extensive experience as a record producer and collector to play music specifically selected to be heard through Turnbull’s large-scale, handmade audio system located in the historic Carnegie Library at Cooper Hewitt. He is the head of Luaka Bop Records along with musician David Byrne.    Designed to envelop the listener in sound that is as rich in texture as it is in emotion, visitors will experience realistic, natural sound from Turnbull’s sculptures and a chance to slow down and engage deeply in listening. .

The program will consider Payne’s photographs of industrial manufacturing as part of a long history of image-making of American architecture and design, highlighting spaces of production, the skilled workers who make things, and the products themselves. They will also discuss the significance of Payne’s work now, in this period of rapid industrial transformation.  .
