Join Cooper Hewitt and our Museum Mile neighbors for the 46th annual Museum Mile Festival. Festival attendees can walk Museum Mile on Fifth Avenue between 82nd Street and 110th Street while visiting eight of New York City’s finest cultural institutions, all of which are open to the public with free admission throughout the event.

The 2024 Museum Mile Festival will kick-off at Cooper Hewitt’s main entrance with an opening ceremony at 5:45 p.m. 

Exhibitions On View

  • An Atlas of Es Devlin is the first monographic museum exhibition dedicated to British artist and stage designer Es Devlin, who is renowned for work that transforms audiences.
  • Acquired! Shaping the National Design Collection highlights how Cooper Hewitt acquires new work to shape the collection to better reflect current issues and design’s evolving role in daily interactions.
  • Give Me a Sign: The Language of Symbols examines the fascinating histories behind many of the symbols that instruct, protect, entertain, empower, and connect people.

What do songs look like? Inspired by the exhibition An Atlas of Es Devlin, visitors are invited to try their hand at visualizing some of the most famous music lyrics they know and love. Check out the drawings by other participants and guess the iconic lyrics. Enjoy this fun activity in the museum’s garden filled with music and inspiration.

About the Museum Mile Festival

The eight cultural partners participating in this long-standing collaboration are: The Metropolitan Museum of Art; Neue Galerie New York; Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum; Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum; The Jewish Museum; Museum of the City of New York; El Museo del Barrio; and The Africa Center.

The celebration of art and culture will feature live programs, musical performances, exhibitions, and art-making activities for all ages. Please check each museum’s website to learn more about their programming.

Admission is free and will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis. No registration required.

The Museum Mile Festival takes place rain or shine.

Entry: All visitors must enter at 2 East 91st Street.

Exit: All visitors will exit the museum via the Garden gate on 90th Street.

Health Measures: We are asking all visitors who are sick or feel unwell to please stay home.

Personal Belongings: We encourage you to limit the number of personal belongings and bags you bring into our facilities as they will be subject to a thorough search. Please note that we do not offer coat, stroller or bag storage at this event.
