Walking my dog, I’ve noticed that dog poop is a problem. Forty percent of dog poop not picked up is left in the open, releasing large amounts of methane into the atmosphere due to common meat-heavy diets. Plastic is wasted with bags from the 60 percent that is picked up. Looking at nature, mushrooms provide untapped opportunities. They promote biodiversity in soil, their roots filter pollutants and can soak up oil, they grow rapidly, and they can be processed as insulation or commercial materials. My design is Go and Grow, a biodegradable sheet with mushroom spores and degradation bacteria. All dog walkers can use this; instead of bending over to pick up poop in plastic, just place this sheet on top, and stomp down. The sheet will degrade in a short period, the poop will fertilize in the soil, and mushrooms will grow.
