Celebrate NYCxDesign with Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum Sunday, May 19 at Brooklyn’s Industry City, Courtyard 1/2 (2nd Avenue Between 36th and 37th Street). Gain exposure to design and the design process in our highly interactive workshops. No prior experience with design is needed to participate.

Learn the Japanese art of Katazome, a stencil dying technique, and create your own design with Sara Peterman.

All materials will be provided. This is a free event and offered on a first-come, first-served basis to audiences of all ages. Children must be over the age of 5 to participate.

3:00–4:30 pm | KATAZOME WORKSHOP— Explore Process + techniques

Join designer Sara Peterman to learn the traditional Japanese art of Katazome. Learn the history behind Katazome and its intricate process. Walk away with your own sample. All materials will be provided.  Recommended for audiences 18 years and older. Registration is required.

ABOUT SARA PETERMAN

Sara Peterman holds a BFA in Textile Design from Georgia State University and is now based in Brooklyn. Since 2006 she has worked alongside her husband Steven Peterman at their arts organization The Sketchbook Project.
