The Senior Mount Maker will primarily be responsible for providing creative, technical support and advice through the Conservation and Exhibitions Departments for safe exhibition mount construction, matting and framing as needed, and mounts for photography and storage projects.
Reports to the Head of Conservation.


The incumbent is primarily responsible for the fabrication of mounts/brackets for exhibition at CHSDM, for photography and/or storage, and assisting with the preparation of permanent collections for museum exhibitions.
The incumbent fabricates mounts/brackets for specified art objects from approved drawings and/or verbal instruction from the designer, exhibitions staff, curator, or conservator.

Working with staff conservators and collections managers, design and create storage housings for permanent collections.

Review design plans for CHSDM exhibitions with curators, exhibitions staff, designers, and conservators to make appropriate mount making/bracketing decisions and to assess the appropriateness of designs vis-à-vis installation issues.
The incumbent must be able to estimate mount/bracket fabrication schedules for long term projects and major museum exhibitions.
