Join Cooper Hewitt’s award winning Education Department! Education Associates offer administrative and teaching support for a wide range of Education Programs for audiences of all ages at the museum and offsite locations. Reports to the Deputy Director of Education.
• Performs a wide range of administrative and logistical assignments assisting in the planning and developing for offsite/onsite education trainings/programs. Duties include assisting in the preparation of contracts, maintaining budgets, and ordering supplies.
• Manages the Department’s registration process for various programs and ensures appropriate follow up. Welcomes educators, guest designers and participants in a professional manner at both the Museum, and offsite locations.
• Builds and maintains excellent relationships with educators, guest designers, and program participants.
• Leads tours and workshops for school field trips, teen programs, intergenerational programs, summer camp, public tours, professional development and other programs as needed.
• Serves as a dynamic team member working with colleagues to support the Museum’s Exposure, Integration, and Transformation education program initiatives.
• Participates and works with the Education team on high level projects and events such as the National Design Week (NDW), NDA Cities, and other program areas as needed.
• Utilizes Windows Office (i.e., such as Outlook, Word, Excel and other software) in completing assignments. Exposure and potential usage/input with digital technology.
• Interest in design, art, digital and media technology.
• Travel is required to various locations within NYC metro area, Washington, DC and other locations throughout the US.
• Keep up with trends and advancements in design, art, digital and media technology.
Education Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in design, education or museum education studies. Transcript required if selected for the position.
• Experience working with and coordinating education activities with youth, teen, and adult audiences.
• Ability to take ownership and initiative of administrative projects to ensure they are completed timely and accurately.
• Strong teaching and class management skills for ages 5+.
• Highly proficient in Windows Office such as Outlook, Word, Excel and other software. Interest and experience with digital technology.
• Ability to compile data for reports using Excel and/or Word.
• Ability to multi task and keep track of work assignments to meet or exceed deadlines for education programs.
• Detailed oriented and demonstrated logistical and administrative skills.
• Ability to independently coordinate the registration process and confirm attendance in a proactive manner.
• Ability to proofread work and write effectively.
• Strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills.
• Customer service skills.
• Ability to travel.
• Ability to lift boxes of 15lbs or more.
• Valid driver’s license in order to drive to offsite locations for events and conferences (Preferred)
• Flexible work schedule, able to work evenings and weekends (seasonally).
