Reporting to the Manager of Development and Membership Operations, the Development Assistant is responsible for providing proactive administrative and general clerical support to Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum’s Development office. S/he will assist with gift processing, acknowledgements, the management of donor portfolios, and perform a variety of data entry, record-keeping and clerical tasks.

Key Responsibilities
CRM Systems + Gift Processing (50%)
Provide accurate and timely processing of gifts and acknowledgment letters
Create and maintain accurate and up to date donor records
Provide integral database support including list pulls for donor emails, appeals and events, and analytical reporting.

Donor Stewardship + Communications (35%)
Draft and proof read correspondence and reports
Coordinate department mailings
Support development officers in tracking donor meetings, reports, proposals and other activities
Collaborate with the communications manager to create and distribute donor solicitation and stewardship materials

Administrative Support (15%)
Conduct preliminary research on prospective corporate, foundation and individual donors
Create meeting briefing documents
Manage department letterhead and supplies
Ensure that DEV computers, printers, copier, other equipment are functioning
Coordinate staff training and orientation
Other duties as assigned

Qualification Requirements
BS/BA Degree
1 – 3 Years relevant work experience, Development experience preferred
Strong organization, problem-solving and analytical skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
Project Management skills with a proven ability to manage time effectively, juggle multiple tasks and work well under pressure in a fast paced environment
Disciplined self-starter
Team player
Experience using CRM systems such as Tessitura or Ellucian Advance
Proficiency with Microsoft Office required, familiarity with Adobe, WordPress, and Mailchimp a plus.
