The curatorial assistant works on special exhibitions across four curatorial departments as well as those related to contemporary and socially responsible design at Cooper Hewitt. Assists senior curator in all areas including duties related to database records, designers’ and exhibitions files; exhibitions planning research for exhibitions and publications. The incumbent independently performs a variety of programmatic, research and administrative duties in support of the Curatorial Department. Performs work at the Cooper Hewitt Mansion and Crozier Fine Arts in Newark, New Jersey.

Assists senior curator(s) with all aspects of planning/preparation/execution/installation of exhibitions such as attending exhibition production meetings; liaising with curator(s); creating object checklist; supplying/editing didactic information such as objects labels and exhibition texts; coordinating audio visual components with Digital department; organizing content for digital tables including tagging and working with departmental curators in selecting related objects.
Assists curator(s) in preparation of loans paperwork; assists with presentations including research as necessary, up-date TMS records; liaise with departmental curator/registrar/ conservators/lenders on conservation and other issues relative to loans.
Attends meetings with curator and Publications department; create image checklist, oversee/supervise photography as needed, prepare captions/texts as assigned, and liaise with Publications as required.
Coordinates with Exhibition/Publication departments the schedule of exhibition installation/catalog; generates POs and paperwork as needed for exhibition/catalog.

Qualification Requirements:
Selective Factor: Ability to read and write in one of the following languages: French, Italian, or German in order to perform original exhibition research and for exhibition-related publications and special curatorial projects.

Specialized Experience: In addition to meeting the Selective Factor above, you qualify for this position if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system. For this position Specialized experience is defined as assisting curators in exhibition planning, performing original research/analysis and performing research-oriented duties in support of exhibitions, publications, acquisitions, and other projects.
