Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum is seeking a contract collections assistant to provide curatorial collections management and administrative assistance services to the museum’s Drawings, Prints and Graphic Design Department.

The contractor works with the Associate Curator and Head of the Drawings, Prints and Graphic Design department at the museum and the museum’s offsite storage in New Jersey. The contractor oversees visitors to the departments’ study centers, maintains department correspondence, catalogues objects in the collection, handles objects in the collection for research or photography, and retrieves collection objects for study, preparation for exhibition, shipment, or loan. The contractor will conduct various collections management tasks including entering information into The Museum System (TMS) database. The contractor will work closely with a variety of internal stakeholders, including Registrar and Conservation.

Degree Requirements: A BA in art history, design and decorative arts history, museum studies or another relevant field is required.

This is a Contract Position.
Work Hours will be: Approximately 26 hours per week (varied hours due to project needs)
Duration: Twelve months

Salary $26.00 to $34.00 (Hourly)
