Caroline Baumann is the Director of Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum. To transform the nation’s design museum into a dynamic, global resource for the public understanding of design, Caroline spearheaded the museum’s most ambitious capital campaign to date, which raised nearly $91 million, and led the recent renovation and expansion of the museum’s home in the historic landmark Carnegie Mansion. The reimagined Cooper Hewitt features exhibitions that travel the world; groundbreaking interactive museum technologies; a free national design education program for students K-12; and a permanent collection of 210,000 design objects that are digitized and available on the museum’s website. Since the museum’s restoration, modernization, and expansion, Cooper Hewitt has broken attendance records and won numerous awards and honors, including a Lucy G. Moses Preservation Award from the New York Landmarks Conservancy, a Dibner Award for Excellence in Museum Exhibits, a Gold Pencil Award for Best in Responsive Environments, a Gold Muse Award for Interpretive Interactive Installations, and LEED Silver certification.

I am very pleased to have been able to bring students during DESIGN WEEK for a free admission. When and what time will this presentation take place?

We have been able to come during design week for a few years and so much appreciate the opportunity to share the excellence of design through ‘experiencing’ the design of space, ability to digitally record our personal experiences, to review history and to appreciate the displays and the importance of designing in ordinary life.

I will be expecting 20 – 25 students who will be finding their own transportation which is costly from Orange County … so ‘planning’ is of the utmost importance.
Please let me know asap.

We’ve tried repeatedly to send a formal invitation to the Museum’s Director, Ms. Caroline Baumann, to be our Museum’s guest of honor and keynote speaker to an international symposium on Contemporary Craft and Design that will take place on May 4th, 2020 at the
MUSA Eretz Israel Museum Tel-Aviv on the occasion of the First Tel Aviv Biennale of Craft & Design 2020 next spring – the largest cultural event in Tel-Aviv this coming year.
Could you help us reach the Museum’s Administration email address?
