Moorhead & Moorhead, brothers Granger and Robert, welcomed Cooper-Hewitt Members to their studio last evening.

Their work explores issues of function and materiality, at scales ranging from furniture to architecture. An exploration of elasticity, the Rubber Lamp is a flexible silicone shell that flips up or down. Tape Wound Borne, featured in Design Life Now: National Design Triennial 2006, resembles an oversized ball of twine and is a fiber-reinforced bench/table. For the 2010 Design Miami/ Temporary Structure, M&M completely transformed a traditional tent in unexpected and innovative ways. See more of their work, as exhibition designers for Cooper-Hewitt’s upcoming exhibition Design with the Other 90%: Cities, opening October 2011 (location to be announced).
