Watch Teen Design Fair NYC, the kick-off event of National Design Week. Held annually in Washington, D.C. and in New York City, The Fair invites hundreds of local teens to learn about careers from a diverse array of design professionals. Design colleges from around the country are also on hand to provide admissions and financial aid information. Teens have the opportunity to meet Tim Gunn and top designers from the worlds of fashion, industrial design, architecture, interaction, and communication.

Design [R]evolutions: Places for Paintings and Paintings for Places


It is difficult to believe that the works of art we now see in museums were originally intended for display someplace else. The inaugural speaker for Desigh [R]evolutions, Dr. Nicholas Penny will discuss where several famous paintings now in public galleries were originally intended to hang, and how lighting, heigh, wall color, frames, and the functions of rooms exerted a decisive influence on the artists who painted them.

During her extraordinary career, which spanned nine decades, she produced highly recognizable domestic items that changed the way Americans set their tables and furnished their homes. Zeisel was widely regarded as a master of modern design, creating objects that were beautiful as well as useful. She often said that her work was the "playful search for beauty."
