Quicktake: Tata Nano


Quicktake: Tata Nano—The People's Car On view February 18 - April 25, 2010 Unveiled last year in India by Tata Motors, India's largest automobile manufacturer, the Tata Nano is targeted to families who had not previously been able to afford a car. Billed as "the people's car," the base model starts at $2,500 in India and can accommodate up to five adults. A bright, sunshine yellow Nano will be on display in Cooper-Hewitt's Great Hall, along with diagrams and photos illustrating its concept, development and production.

Meier 75


Meier 75 celebrates Richard Meier's promised gift of two architectural drawings of the J. Paul Getty Center in Los Angeles. Meier is presenting the works to Cooper-Hewitt on the occasion of his 75th birthday and the publication of Richard Meier, Architect Volume 5.

Particles


Daito Manabe and Motoi Ishibashi (of Face Visualizer fame) have unveiled a new project called Particles. Particles is a room-filling installation made of floating “light particles” that fly around and form glowing shapes.

Set In Style: Gallery Tour with Patrick Jouin


Now on view at Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, the Set In Style: The Jewelry of Van Cleef & Arpels exhibition boasts hundreds of stunning jewels, timepieces, fashion accessories, objets d’art, and drawings by Van Cleef & Arpels. The six-room installation of these brilliant jewels is itself an innovative work of design.

Design Miami


First stop: Moorhead & Moorhead’s Design Miami/ tent exterior. The Cooper-Hewitt group was greeted by brothers, Robert (industrial designer) and Granger (architect), to talk about the dynamic canopied entrance to the design show – a bris soleil of hand cut, twisted vinyl strips that perform a dance of shadows on the ground.
