Yinka Shonibare Selects: Works from the Permanent Collection

Solos: Matali Crasset


In the fourth installment of the Solos exhibition series, Cooper-Hewitt presents an interactive light and sound installation by the celebrated French industrial designer, Matali Crasset. Crasset’s work explores residential and urban rituals and the domestication of technology, comprising industrial design products, graphics, theater sets, wallpaper, and furniture.

Frederic Church, Winslow Homer, and Thomas Moran: Tourism and the American Landscape


Frederic Church, Winslow Homer, and Thomas Moran: Tourism and the American Landscape explores the promotion of scenic tourism in 19th century America through Cooper-Hewitt’s extraordinary collections of oil paintings, drawings, and watercolors by these artists. The exhibition presents the Museum’s American landscape collection at Cooper-Hewitt for the first time in more than 15 years, and is the premiere showing of many of its Homer oil paintings.

Feeding Desire: Design and the Tools of the Table, 1500–2005


A journey through the evolution of Western dining from the Renaissance to the present, Feeding Desire features objects from Cooper-Hewitt's world-class collections. The exhibition will address the development of utensil forms, innovations in production and materials, etiquette, and flatware as social commentary.

Made to Scale: Staircase Masterpieces—The Eugene & Clare Thaw Gift


In the fifth exhibition in the Nancy and Edwin Marks Gallery, Cooper-Hewitt will present Eugene and Clare Thaw’s collection of staircase models—the largest known holding of these works outside of France—which will be accessioned into the museum’s permanent collection. Made to Scale: Staircase Masterpieces—The Eugene & Clare Thaw Gift, is the first museum exhibition in the United States focused on staircase models.

National Design Triennial: Design Life Now


The third National Design Triennial brings together the experimental designs and emerging ideas of 87 designers and firms who are leaders, innovators, or emerging figures in the world of design. The exhibition features work created between 2003-2006, including animation, new media, fashion design, robotics, architecture, product design, and graphic design.

Quicktake: Doshi Levien for Moroso


This summer, Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum will present Quicktake: Doshi Levien for Moroso, a special installation in the museum's Great Hall showcasing the designers' new "Charpoy" collection of daybeds and pillows for Moroso.

Looking Forward/Looking Back: Recent Acquisitions in 20th and 21st Century Design


Looking Forward/Looking Back will display objects from the past 100 years that were acquired in order to expand the breadth of the collection and augment the Museum’s contemporary holdings.
