Color Moves the Design Library

Color Moves: Art and Fashion by Sonia Delaunay, which opened March 18, brings over 300 examples of the artist’s fashion and textile designs to our galleries. Here are a few fun things that were not included, but can all be found in Smithsonian’s National Design Library, housed here at Cooper-Hewitt.

Making of an Exhibition

A small group of Cooper-Hewitt Members had the special privilege of going on an installation tour of Color Moves: Art and Fashion by Sonia Delaunay. In the galleries, geometric prints popped with color and movement.

Now on view at Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, the Set In Style: The Jewelry of Van Cleef & Arpels exhibition boasts hundreds of stunning jewels, timepieces, fashion accessories, objets d’art, and drawings by Van Cleef & Arpels. Sensational Set in Style Opening

Cooper-Hewitt Members and friends celebrated at the Set in Style: The Jewelry of Van Cleef and Arpels opening reception on February 17. Guests explored the expansive exhibition, meandered among gem stones, and danced to the beat of a DJ in a tented garden.

Pattern Inspiration: Sonia Delaunay and Fashion

As New York Fashion Week Fall 2011 draws to a close, I wanted to compare some beautiful textile patterns that fashion designers this past year have shown with selected objects from our upcoming exhibition, Color Moves: Art and Fashion by Sonia Delaunay.

The Making of Set In Style

Amethyst, diamond, emerald, jade, onyx, ruby and sapphire—the very words conjure up an exotic world of beauty, fashion, mystery, and intrigue. Set in Style: The Jewelry of Van Cleef & Arpels provides ample evidence that the celebrated jeweler does indeed exemplify that world.

Postcard from Tokyo

I was delighted by this New Year’s card from Takeshi Ishiguro in Tokyo. On the front was an image of a snow covered landscape, with one of those crisp blue skies that only seem to visit Japan when it’s cold.
