Pure Blend / Puras Misturi

Centrally located in the Ibirapuera city park the city government has established a new Brazilian Cultures Hall (Pavilhão das Culturas Brasileiras). I visited the space in April, a week before the installation began, and was entranced not only this new design collection, but also by the architecture.

Designer David Trubridge answers why design?

It is not primarily to do with recyclable materials, efficient material use. To me these are the basic givens of design — any good design automatically does this by default. If not, it is not good design.

The Craft of Manufacturing

On April 19, Robin Petravic and Catherine Bailey spoke here at Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum about their work as owners of the legendary California pottery maker Heath, founded by Edith Heath in the mid-1940s. Their presentation had everyone thinking about the role of craft in manufacturing.
