New & Notable Books for June, 2011


The Cooper Hewitt National Design Library, a branch of Smithsonian Institution Libraries, is the major resource in the United States for books, trade catalogs, serials, pictures, and archival material covering design and decorative art from the Renaissance to the present. Students, artists and designers, writers, researchers from auction houses, preservation and historical societies, conservators, collectors, and museum professionals come and use our library to research and document design and decorative arts- and everyone is welcome.

2011 Cover Design Competition


Every year, the Department of Education distributes thousands of school directories to students and their families across New York City. The Department of Education and the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum worked together to select student entries for the 2011-2012 cover directory design.

2011 Milan Furniture Fair


The Cooper- Hewitt, National Design Museum group had a superb time at the 2011 Milan Furniture Fair this past week, joining in on many of the 50th anniversary “Salone” celebrations.

Scholars: 2011 College Campus Tour


Our first stop included a visit to Massachusetts Institute of Technology. A meeting with Scot Osterweil, Director of the Education Arcade at the MIT Media Lab, left students awe struck as they tested out games to promote learning.
