Cooper-Hewitt Announces Winner of K-12 Doodle 4 Google Design Contest and Launches ExhibitionWednesday, May 26, 2010The Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum will present the exhibition “Doodle 4 Google: If I Could Do Anything, I Would...” from May 27 through Aug. 15 in the Target National Design Education Center. The exhibition features the winning designs from the 2010 Doodle 4 Google competition for K-12 students from around the country and includes educational programs for teachers and students focusing on the problem-solving nature of the design process. |

Cooper-Hewitt Announces Appointment of Objects ConservatorFriday, April 16, 2010Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum is pleased to announce the appointment of Annie Hall as the museum’s first objects conservator, made possible through support from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Hall will study and interpret the museum’s vast collection, collaborate with curators, trustees and the public, gather and disseminate knowledge of the highest scholarship about the unstudied objects in Cooper-Hewitt’s collection and plan for the long-term care of the objects. Prior to this appointment, the museum has had to rely on freelance conservators to treat objects on an as needed basis for all installations, exhibitions and loans. “Hall brings remarkable experience and expertise to the museum, and she will continue to fulfill our mission through her ability to preserve and care for our incredibly diverse objects,” said Curatorial Director Cara McCarty. “Conservation and preservation of Cooper-Hewitt’s holdings is vital for the safety and longevity of the objects within the collection.” |

Smithsonian's Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum to Present "Doodle 4 Google" Exhibition Featuring K-12 Design Contest Winner and FinalistsWednesday, February 3, 2010The Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum today announced its partnership with Google on an exhibition of this year’s U.S. “Doodle 4 Google” design competition winner and finalists. The “Doodle 4 Google” design competition invites K-12 students from across the country to think like designers, using Google’s iconic logo to convey their hopes and dreams inspired by the theme, “If I Could Do Anything, I Would...” On May 27, the winning student’s design will be the doodle of the day on the www.google.com home page. The top four National Winners from each grade group along with the 36 Regional Finalists’ designs will be featured in the exhibition from May 27 through July 8. The exhibition will focus on the creative nature of the design process and will include educational programs for teachers and students. |

Stuart Bohart and Marissa Mayer Join Cooper-Hewitt Board of TrusteesMonday, July 13, 2009The Smithsonian Institution’s board of regents voted to appoint Stuart Bohart and Marissa Mayer to Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum’s board of trustees. Bohart, managing director, investment management at Morgan Stanley, has been with the global financial services firm for more than 10 years. Mayer joined Google in 1999 as its first female engineer and 20th employee, and functions as the principle designer of company's look and feel. |

Cooper-Hewitt Presents Free Public Programs July 24 in Washington, D.C., Celebrating the 10th Annual National Design AwardsThursday, July 9, 2009The Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the National Design Awards with free public programs that explore the intersection between design and the world around us. Several of the National Design Award winners will be part of a series of concurrent public programs from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, July 24, at museums around the Mall. Later that day, First Lady Michelle Obama will host the White House ceremony for the winners and finalists of the 2009 awards and serve as honorary patron for the awards program.
