Shock of the Old: Christopher Dresser

On view March 5, 2004–July 25, 2004

Considered one of the first industrial designers, Christopher Dresser was also one of the most influential figures in design of the nineteenth century, focusing on methods of industrial production, form over ornament, and an eclectic vocabulary of cultural sources. This exhibition, the first full-scale museum retrospective of Dresser’s work, introduced his work to American audiences.
