This exhibition focuses on the intersection of art and mass media in the first part of the 20th century. A selection of 200 works selected the private Merrill C. Berman collection explores themes such as the avant-garde's impact on design and the the designer's changing role in relation to commerce, communication, and politics. The exhibition features magazine covers, book jackets, advertisements, graphic ephemera, and other objects by Man Ray, A. M. Cassandre, Leo Marfurt, Alexander Rodchenko, Kurt Schwitters. Theo van Doesburg, Vladimir and Georgii Steinberg, and Lester Beall. Art movements including Futurism, Dada, Russian Constructivism, and the Bauhaus are well-represented.
