Join us for a special tour of the American 19th century landscape galleries at the Metropolitan Museum of Art led by Elizabeth Mankin Kornhauser, Curator, American Wing, and Dr. Gail Davidson, Cooper-Hewitt’s Curator and Head of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design Department. The tour will highlight the Frederic Church oil sketches on loan from Cooper-Hewitt, and how they illuminate the Met’s permanent Collection.

Cooper-Hewitt's National Design Library, formerly housed in the Carnegie Mansion, inhabits a beautifully renovated space in the Museum's main administrative buildings at 9 East 90th Street. Join Stephen Van Dyk, Smithsonian Institution Library’s Art Department Head, for this special tour highlighting works from its collection that includes 80,000 volumes, 4,500 trade catalogues, several picture collections, and approximately 1,700 pop-up books.

Sustainability: Visiting the Newtown Creek Waste Water Treatment Plant


According to Jim Pynn, Superintendent of Newtown Creek’s 52-acre water waste treatment plant, the plant’s star architectural feature is eight futuristic, stainless steel–clad “digester eggs.” Tours of the facility began less than a year ago.

High School Students Visit the Glass House


Cooper-Hewitt Youth Programs students were in for an exciting excursion when they ventured outside the city to nearby New Canaan, Connecticut. They visited Philip Johnson’s Glass House and received a two-hour tour of the extensive campus.
