National Design Award

A National Design Award Winner

Although I never had the pleasure of meeting designer William Stumpf, who passed away shortly before winning the 2006 National Design Award for Product Design, I feel that he knew me. At work I sit in an Aeron chair, one of the most comfortable task chairs I have ever used and, arguably, Mr. Stumpf’s best-known design. The Aeron chair, designed by William Stumpf and Donald Chadwick, was introduced by the manufacturer Herman Miller, Inc. in 1994, and is still in production.

National Design Awards 2008 - People's Design Award

The Zon Hearing Aid transforms the beige shapeless traditional hearing aid into a dynamic, sculptural object that ergonomically embraces the geometry of the ear while taking advantage of the latest technology to provide the highest audio quality. Most hearing impaired listeners wait up to eight years before being fitted with a hearing aid because of its perceived association with disability and weakness. The Zon turns the hearing aid into a coveted high-performance design object.

Stephen Doyle Creates Cooper-Hewitt's Holiday Greeting

Stephen Doyle was in China when I asked him if he would be willing to design a holiday greeting of some kind for the Museum. I told him that he is our super-hero of gala presentations, as we all loved his presentation as the National Design Award winner for communications this year.
