Czech Cubism: Architecture and Design


An exploration of Prague's vibrant Cubism movement, which thrived between 1910 and 1925. The majority of the furniture, architectural renderings, ceramics, and metalwork on display are on loan from the Museum of Decorative Arts and the National Technical Museum, both in Prague. This traveling exhibition was organized by the Vitra Design Museum in Weil-am-Rhein in collaboration with Prague's Museum of Decorative Arts and its National Technical Museum.

Redesigning Cooper-Hewitt: Drawings by Polshek & Partners Architects


A display of architectural floor plans, renderings, and illustrations of the renovations for the Mansion and houses designed by James Polshek and Partners. The first phase of the renovation updated the ground floor galleries, and the second phase includes the opening of a design resource center, which scheduled to be completed in time for the Museum’s Centennial Celebration in the fall of 1997.

The Architecture of Reassurance: Designing the Disney Theme Parks


Approximately 200 artifacts reveal the methods of Disney's design team and trace the history of the parks from original concepts to present day developments. Many never-seen-before plans, renderings, posters, paintings, and models from the extensive archives of Walt Disney Imagineering are on view. This traveling exhibition was curated by Karal Ann Marling and organized by the Canadian Centre for Architecture in Montreal. Sponsored by Target Stores.

Made to Scale: Staircase Masterpieces—The Eugene & Clare Thaw Gift


In the fifth exhibition in the Nancy and Edwin Marks Gallery, Cooper-Hewitt will present Eugene and Clare Thaw’s collection of staircase models—the largest known holding of these works outside of France—which will be accessioned into the museum’s permanent collection. Made to Scale: Staircase Masterpieces—The Eugene & Clare Thaw Gift, is the first museum exhibition in the United States focused on staircase models.

Meier 75


Meier 75 celebrates Richard Meier's promised gift of two architectural drawings of the J. Paul Getty Center in Los Angeles. Meier is presenting the works to Cooper-Hewitt on the occasion of his 75th birthday and the publication of Richard Meier, Architect Volume 5.
