Hella Jongerius Selects

As the second guest curator of an installation in the Nancy and Edwin Marks Gallery, leading Dutch designer Hella Jongerius focuses on the Museum’s unparalleled collection of samplers. Jongerius was drawn to the Museum's permanent collection of over 1,000 samplers from Europe and America—embroidered notes made by needlewomen as personal records to document their designs for trading and for later use. Jongerius includes The Lady’s Manual of Fancy Work (advice on sewing and embroidery), a Chinese export sewing box and an 18th century enameled sewing kit.
