Andrea Palladio in America

On View:
Tuesday, June 7, 1977 to Wednesday, October 5, 1977

This exhibition explores the impact of the 16th-century Italian architect, Andrea Palladio, on American architecture. Among the objects on display are 16 large wooden scale models of villas and churches designed by Palladio, large scale photographs of the buildings as they appear today, and panels of photographs depicting important buildings in the United States that reflect Palladio's influence. Palladio published four volumes, I Quattro Libri dell'Arquitecttura, in 1570, which helped disseminate his language of classical architecture to England and, later, Colonial America.
