Cooper-Hewitt in Czech Republic


It was an action-packed trip to the Czech Republic last week to receive the 2013 Ladislav Sutnar Award for Cooper-Hewitt's contribution to the world of design and the promotion of Sutnar's legacy and work. Cooper-Hewitt is proud to have the largest archive and collection of Sutnar in the United States, which includes nearly 23,000 archival items, 62 three-dimensional objects, such as glass, ceramics, and toy block “Build the Town” prototypes, 22 two-dimensional drawings and prints, and three textiles.

Nonstop Alessi!


We all enjoyed the opening of Alessi: Ethical and Radical this past weekend at the Philadelphia Museum of Art (on view through April 10, 2011 in the Collab Gallery/Perelman Building), and last night Alberto joined us at Cooper-Hewitt for a scintillating presentation of the company’s work over the decades, reiterating the Alessi ethos that Design is a new form of contemporary art and poetry.

Bill Moggridge Wins Britain’s 2010 Prince Philip Designers Prize


Bill Moggridge, director of Cooper-Hewitt, was awarded the 2010 Prince Philip Designers Prize Tuesday, Nov. 9. The U.K.’s most prestigious design prize is awarded annually to recognize a lifetime contribution to design.
