Cooper Hewitt offers free dynamic educational programs for school groups grades K – 12.
Design Field Trips
Design Field Trips is a 90-minute program that includes an exhibition tour and hands-on workshop. Teachers may register a class of up to 30 students and select the exhibition to share with the group. Students will first tour the exhibition with a Cooper Hewitt educator, who will lead students through an in-depth exploration of five or six objects in the exhibition. Following the tour, students will engage in a design workshop inspired by the exhibition.
Design in the Classroom
Design in the Classroom is a nationwide educational program that brings Cooper Hewitt’s celebrated design workshops to K-12 schools across New York City, with a preference given to outer-borough schools. The 45-minute workshop introduces students to design thinking and learning through collaborative, hands-on learning and encourages students to think like designers as they engage in the design process through active observation, critical discussion, the act of making, visual communication, and presentation and critique.
