Reflections from a Queensland fellow


Every year, the Queensland-Smithsonian Fellowship Program provides the opportunity for one Queensland school teacher to travel to New York to work in the Cooper-Hewitt’s Education Department for the summer. They develop knowledge and skills to apply and share with students and colleagues back in Queensland as well as contribute their unique vision to programs offered by the Department.

Teens Create Socially Responsible Campaigns


One of the exciting aspects of Design with the Other 90%: Cities is the ability to connect the international themes of the exhibition to a New York setting. In our second DesignPrep workshop held at the United Nations, teens examined key issues highlighted in the exhibition.

2nd Annual DC Teen Design Fair


Hundreds of Washington, DC high-school students gathered at the Kogod Courtyard of the Smithsonian American Art Museum and National Portrait Gallery to participate in one of the biggest teen design events of the year.

High School Students Visit the Glass House


Cooper-Hewitt Youth Programs students were in for an exciting excursion when they ventured outside the city to nearby New Canaan, Connecticut. They visited Philip Johnson’s Glass House and received a two-hour tour of the extensive campus.

Cooper-Hewitt Scholars Win Big with Jell-O!


Our May blog post featured Sophomore Scholars students preparing to participate in the annual Jell-O Mold Competition. On Saturday, June 25th, their designs were unveiled at the Gowanus Studio Space in Brooklyn.

Scholars Program Kicks Off In Style


The Cooper-Hewitt Scholars students had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work with the master model maker from Van Cleef & Arpels, Sophie Pean. Sophie, who trained at an institution founded by Louis XIV is known to VC&A as a living treasure.
