Marc Jacobs
Marc Jacobs Collection Spring 2003
September 18, 2002
Photography: Dan Lecca
Marc Jacobs believes that fashion is a part of living rather than an art in itself. Jacobs's designs portray a subversive interpretation of the classics and illustrate his appreciation of art, music, movies, and the past. Clients such as director Sofia Coppola and actors Hilary Swank, Uma Thurman, and Brad Pitt appreciate Jacobs's work down to its smallest detail: a button, a contrast stitch, a perfectly frayed hem. Born and raised in New York City, Jacobs designed and sold his first collection of hand-knit sweaters while he was a student at Parsons School of Design. During this time, he also began his longtime partnership with Robert Duffy, who continues with him at Marc Jacobs, Inc. today. For twenty years, Jacobs's goal has always been "to create the most perfect, imperfect thing."
