Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum celebrates both the opening of the Design Resource Center, a new collections study and storage complex, and the completion of a four-year-long, $20-million renovation. To herald the occasion, this exhibition showcases each of the collecting departments: Applied Arts and Industrial Design, Wallcoverings, Textiles, Drawings and Prints, and the Doris and Henry Dreyfuss Memorial Study Center. Objects have been chosen to reveal the scope and breadth of the Museum's collections. A wide range of media, techniques, and historical periods are highlighted. Since collecting continued during the years when the Museum was fully or partially closed, Opening Our Doors presents many new acquisitions which are on public view for the first time.
Designers, students, scholars, and the general public are invited to make an appointment to visit the Design Resource Center where they can research the depth of the Museum's holdings.
